Post Leaving Certificate students are paid from October to June. SUSI confirms your attendance with the college each month about a week before the payment date, and pays only once attendance is confirmed:

| November | Thursday 19 November 2026 |
| December | Thursday 10 December 2026 |
| January | Thursday 21 January 2027 |

Four things that must be in place first
- An award letter. You need a grant award (or renewal) letter from SUSI — an application still “in assessment” doesn’t pay.
- College registration. You must be registered with your college for the new academic year.
- Registration confirmed to SUSI. Your college confirms your registration electronically — this can take a little time at the start of term.
- Bank details submitted. Enter them in your SUSI student portal. If your 2026/27 application has a new W2627 reference, submit bank details again even if SUSI paid you last year.
Missed the first payment? You get back payments
If your application is approved late, or your college confirms registration after a payment run, the missed instalments are not lost. They are bundled into your first payment as back pay. A student approved in November still receives the September and October money.
How much is each payment?
Your annual maintenance grant divided by nine. On the full non-adjacent rate of €4,722 that’s about €524.67 a month; on the special rate of €7,936 it’s about €881.78. Fee grants (like the €2,500 student contribution) are paid directly to your college and never appear in your bank account.
Frequently asked questions
When is the first SUSI payment for 2026/27?
Thursday 10 September 2026 for higher education students, and Thursday 15 October 2026 for PLC students. You must have received your award letter, registered with your college, and submitted bank details before a payment can issue.
What day of the week does SUSI pay?
Payments land on Thursdays, roughly the second week of each month for higher education students. PLC payments are slightly later in the month because colleges confirm attendance first.
What if my grant is approved after the first payment date?
You don’t lose the money. Any instalments you missed are paid as back payments in your first payment after approval and registration are complete.
How many payments does SUSI make?
Nine equal monthly instalments across the academic year: September to May for higher education, October to June for PLC students.
Why has my payment not arrived?
The usual culprits: college hasn’t confirmed your registration or attendance yet, bank details are missing or were submitted for an old application, or your award was finalised after that month’s payment run. Check the payment schedule in your SUSI student portal.
